There are so many ways with which you can format your write-protected pendrive and i’m going to list out a few methods using which you can format your pendrive or memory card.
- Regedit.
- Diskpart.
- Disk Management Format.
- DOS Format.
Regedit Method to Format a Write-Protected Pendrive/Memory Card
- Using Run command (Wind key + R) open “regedit.exe“.
- Navigate to HKEY-LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies or if you don’t find this “StorageDevicePolicies” do not worry.
- You will find a “Write Protected” value on the right side, edit the value to 0 and click on ok.
- For those people who don’t find the folder , just create an new key inside the “Control” folder itself. Now again right click => new DWORD. Name it as WriteProtect and set its value to 0.
- Restart your system so that the changes will take effect and try to format the pendrive.
Diskpart Method to Format a Write-Protected Pendrive/Memory Card
Using Diskpart for formatting a write-protected pendrive could be the smart idea because a simple CMD command could give you big results. In this case you need to run the CMD as a Administrator. Type in the following commands carefully one by one.
diskpart
list disk
select disk disknumber (replace disknumber with the disk number of your pendrive).
attributes disk clear readonly
clean
create partition primary
format fs=fat32exit
Formatting a Pendrive/Memory Card using Disk Management
- Insert your pendrive an connect it to your system.
- Open the disk management , To do so
XP,Vista and Windows-7 : right click on my computer => manage.
Windows-8,8.1 : right click on the left bottom corner and choose “Computer management“. - Under Storage select Disk Management.
- Right click on the disk drive you want to format and click on format.
Format Unformatable USB Pendrive using MS-DOS
To format a USB pendrive/memory-card using MS-DOS you need to run command prompt as Admin.
- Click Start => Run and then type cmd .
- Type in format Number , where Number is the number of your pen drive. You can know that by using the diskpart method (See above).
- Type in format number : /F S : FAT32
- Next you will be asked to enter a name for your drive. Just write some name and hit enter.
